Marrakech’s New City of Gueliz
Gueliz is where most foreigners who settle in Marrakech decide to live.
Gueliz is the heart of the modern part of Marrakech. Its main avenues are Mohammed VI and Mohammed V. This area is where many foreigners choose to live in Marrakech.
This area houses international clothing shops like Zara and H&M, as well as modern restaurants and cafés.
Avenue Mohammed V houses the most expensive boutiques and high-end stores of Marrakech.
A good area for restaurants
If you’ve been in Morocco for a long time and are a little tired of the traditional Moroccan cuisine, head to Gueliz where you will find European or American restaurants. You’ll even find a McDonald’s.
Even though this area might seem a little more expensive, restaurants and bars are still quite cheap and a dinner for two in a pizzeria near five-star hotels in avenue Mohammed VI will cost around 140 dh (US$ 14).
Transport
By taxi from Jemma el-Fnaa to the McDonalds in Gueliz: approximately 10 dirhams.
